RATKING Thread 🐀 👑

#1

RATKING is an American hip hop group from New York City, consisting of rappers Wiki and Antwon, and producer-rapper Sporting Life. Producers Racerra and Ramon and rapper Hak are former members. Formed in 2011, the group has since released two EPs, [Wiki93] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KblJuNO0X9c) in 2012 and [700 Fill] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dELClWlKak) in 2015, and one studio album, [So It Goes] (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZqsyBiYZFQ1eRn_AXQOifNq4nO7yV2a9) in 2014.

So It Goes is regarded as their best project to date, fully putting their unorthodox NY style to the forefront. It features King Krule, Salomon Faye, and Wavy Spice.

Their music has been described as “left-field hip-hop”. In addition to being inspired by rap and hip hop, the group has also been inspired by punk rock, and has “many and diverse influences, from Animal Collective to Suicide.”

Discuss their music, similar artists, or general things regarding the group here.

*Antwon has not featured on any of their projects as a member so far just as a footnote

i get wiki is the main person in the group but why is wiki93 named after him when its all of them

#3

Didn’t know Antwon joined them thats dope

#4

The EP was based on Wiki’s solo project 1993 that he made before he became apart of Ratking, hence giving a nod to Wiki I guess.

#5

Honestly I didn’t either before this post lol

#6

Any essential songs for a newbie?

#7

I thought that Wiki was done with them? Either way I’m sure he’ll be successful

#8

Snow Beach, So Sick Stories, pretty much all of So It Goes.
Wiki’ solo album is good too.

#9

Sure. I would recommend

  1. Canal
  2. So It Goes
  3. So Sick Stories
  4. Take
  5. Pretty Picture
  6. Snow Beach

I would just start with So It Goes and keep going through their discog.

#10

Didn’t really like So It Goes the first time I heard it, but I still have Arnold Palmer, Flurry, Steep Tech, and Sticky Trap from 700-Fill on rotation. Guess I’ll have to give So It Goes another listen.

Lil Me had some dope tracks too, but it just seemed long.

#11

So It Goes took a bit to get into for me cause it is a little different from their other work sonically so I feel ya

#12

so it goes is pretty dope, it was kinda distracting how every song had the same exact snare sample tho.
what else should i listen to?

#13

well So It Goes was their only studio album, but they have 2 eps, Wiki93 and 700 Fill, I personally recommend Wiki93 over 700-Fill. Also Wiki’s solo record Lil Me has a lot of Sporting Life production and features some Hak so it is pretty close to a Ratking record, and I would say is better than Wiki93.

Here is Wiki93:

Here is Lil Me:

and here is a sample of Lil Me: God Bless Me Ft. Skepta and Sporting Life:

#14

what do you guys think of lil me? i thought it was pretty good. god bless me is probably my favorite joint on there besides 3 stories and crib tax.

imagine a wiki and skepta ep :whew:

#15

I thought it was really good, I enjoyed most of it, my favourite tracks probably being Living With My Moms, God Bless Me and 3 Stories. It felt like another Ratking record, which can be good if you want more Ratking but bad if Wiki wants to be different from Ratking stylistically.

#16

true, thats probably because sporting life produced the majority of it.

How do you think they’ll sound, now that Hak left? i think wiki and sporting life together might be doper than them with hak

#17

Probably the same to be honest, Wiki and Hak sort of compliment each other cause they have similar styles, and with Hak leaving I kinda see it as just more Wiki as place filler, or Sporting Life may do some verses like on God Bless Me. Also, I believe Antwon has replaced Hak in Ratking now so that may make SL change their sound to darker vibe like on Antwon’s solo work. He could add another pathway of lyrical topic and flow arrangement as well.

#18

oh shit antwon is dope af, him and wiki will sound good together. honestly as long as sporting life keeps producing for them their sound will be alright. can’t wait for their next project tho

#19

damn just listened to wiki93, shit is too dope :whew:

#20

wiki and antwon are pretty tight, they constantly do features and stuff for each other.

here is Antwon’s track off of Heavy Hearted In Doldrums, Metronome Ft. Wiki:

here is the God Bless Me Remix Ft. Antwon
