It's weird because the only times i feel like he's really disappointed was on Keys to the Kuffs and NehruvianDOOM. Two projects that seem almost like these weird interim projects, yknow? I've never been let down by a main discography DOOM project so it's almost hard to imagine that even happening. All three MF DOOM projects (including Born This Way), both Viktor Vaughn projects, Take Me To Your Leader, Mouse and the Mask: all home runs in my opinion. I feel like DOOM, as in the man behind the mask -- Daniel Dumile himself -- cares too much about the legacy of MF DOOM in the hip-hop world and within his own canon to fuck up a marquee project in his discography.
But, if it did happen, I don't think it would affect him.
Relapse exists, and Eminem is still in the GOAT conversation. Kingdom Come exists, and Hova is still in the GOAT conversation. Kanye could drop a genuinely garbage album and he'll still be in the GOAT conversation for his discography and influence in 5-10 years (he's in the convo right now but you've got lots of older heads who think that statement is ridic for whatever reason).
DOOM's legacy would be fine.
e: speaking of Born This Way (sort of), what do you think is the true significance of the use of the moniker Doom instead of MF DOOM? Do you think it's because of how x-rated and unmasked he seems in that album? I've never gotten a concrete answer from anyone.
