Last 3 months:
M.I.A. - Vicki Leekx: This isnt my favorite Mia album but its her shortest and easy to listen to. It did Endless before Frank did it, released as a single mp3 file that people split up themselves. Its like 36 minutes long and has 19 songs so its really schizo and i love it. Especially the songs being short
M.I.A. - MAYA: This is my favorite Mia album. When i first heard Steppin up start it blew my mind. The album was way ahead of its time with really noisy and abrasive production ... its like Yeezus before Kanye did it. The difference is that Mia got panned for the album but Kanye was praised......... ok
M.I.A. - Matangi: All of the pop appeal from Vicki leekx combined with the craziness on Maya, its another crazy ass album with electronic stuff. Theres like dubstep rap on the album w/ the title track and it goes over so well. Also Bad girls is still so awesome !
Tommy Genesis - World Vision: My love for Tommy g probably goes hand in hand with my love for Mia, i love the loud and extreme hype tracks from a girl rapper. This album is way more oriented toward bangers than anything Mia makes so its a lot more hype and its super awesome
Frank Ocean - Endless: I wrote about this album in my top 10 of the year already
Mac Miller - The Divine Feminine: This is the only Mac miller album ive listened to so its pretty messed up that i listen to it so much. The strings on the opening track and the really smooth and groovy vibe of the album makes it so fun to listen to. I dont even mind the long cuts, and i especially love the Kendrick feature
Injury Reserve - Floss: This album has a TON of bangers and hype tracks, its really insane and every cut gets your blood pumping LMAO . Theres a song called Whats goodie that has such a fantastic closing verse. And as always Nathaniel ritchie and Steppa sound good together
M.I.A. - Arular: This is the most raw and simplest of Mias albums so i like it for that. Theres way more charisma and funny commentary on politics here than any other Mia album, it just shines with personality from how much Mia does with so little. Also Mia herself produced for this album a ton so its cool to hear her own production
Frank Ocean - Blonde: I dont like this album as much as Endless but its still a really pretty and chill album. I wish that the album didnt fall apart in the second half with the meandering and boring cuts like Seigfried and Godspeed but its still good just for the first half...
Sofia - sitcom/obsession: I always like putting on smaller artists so if you like bedroom pop type stuff with really simple guitar and beautiful singing then please listen to sofias music. This is her most recent release and its so pretty and polished compared to her older stuff. http://strawberitashortcake.bandcamp.com/
valentina & los bindis - Para Siempre Asi: This is another small artist. She makes very lo fi and melancholy dream pop type music, lots of really sparse but beautiful vocals over very synthetic and cheap sounding production. This release in particular is PROB her most polished and enjoyable. The last song is so beautiful omg...
Travis Scott - Rodeo: Rodeo is imo the mbdtf of trap. Super duper awesome production that still surprises me so much with the fact that Travis decided to put it on his mainstream debut album. I just wish that Travis still went in this direction with his newer music
Childish Gambino - Awaken, My Love!: This is a really traditionalist funk album and honestly i dont enjoy it nearly as much as others on this list but i replay Redbone enough to put it in here. I like playing it to my parents too because they like it. The funk stuff goes over well sometimes but i think that Donald goes over the best over the more mellow stuff like Terrified, Redbone and Stand tall.
Drake - Views: I wrote about this in my top 10
Sofia - they're young in love and kill people!: This is the same sofia, this release is a concept Ep about bonnie and Clyde though. Its her first and it sounds so heartbroken that i love it. I repay the song sharpshooter all the time
Kanye West - Yeezus: Ive played this album even more than the last fm claims because i listen to it on cassette now too, i really like the swagger this album has. The features are sparse but fantastic and it has a ton of personality just from all of the voices in the album. I dont care for the weirdest songs here like On sight but i love Guilt trip with Kid cudis part and i like Bound 2 a little bit too
clipping. - Splendor & Misery: I wrote about this in my top 10
Post Malone - Stoney: Probably Aoty 2016. I never knew that Posty was such a great singer until i heard this album. Its a really pretty but energetic album with super heartful singing and really fun vibes. I wish i hadnt been sleeping on it for so long tho ..
Father - Who's Gonna Get Fucked First: This is Fathers darkest and creepiest album probably and it has such weird and gross vibes sometimes. But still Father manages to come through with beautiful cuts like Morena and Slow dance. The dark atmosphere just makes the album all that more interesting to me.
harmony tividad - yes and hello: This is harmonys weirdest release with really ugly grunge-like guitars over synthetic production unlike her older folk bedroom pop stuff. I love how harmony sings at her highest pitch on the album and i really love the progressive feel to songs like what chaos is imaginary.
Sofia - lollygagging: This is sofias saddest release and also i think her longest. The album is so personal that its just sad to listen to sometimes because you really only get this level of honesty from small artists like her. I can relate to it hard too LMAO
Young Thug - Barter 6: The mellow and laid back production of this album is so weird to me, the fact that someone as mainstream and poppy as Young thug would make an album over beats like this. I wish he had put it out as his debut like he planned instead of just another mixtape, it might have gotten more hype and it really deserves it. This is thuggers masterpiece
Hodgy - Fireplace: TheNotTheOtherSide: I wrote about this album in my top 10 already.
Kilo Kish - Reflections in Real Time: I love Kilos swagger on this album and especially the girly and cutesy production on a lot of it. She sounds really pretty when she isnt trying to rap like on her older releases. The Rejjie snow feature is awesome too
valentina & los bindis - sticker eterno: Honestly this comes off as like a less polished Para siempre asi, its more focused on dreampop than the lo fi elements of the other release so it comes off like a weird dusty pop record instead of like an alien transmission or something lol. More really depressing music that truly TUGS at my heartstrings!!!!
