Kanye, to me ,was really in the running for GOAT until he decided to go extremely public with everything he does and eventually put out that shitfest of a record FLOP. every single one of his albums before that (excluding cruel winter, because the way that was promoted and released was such a mess) were iconic and boundary pushing(not to be mistaken with classic). he was the face of killing the gangsta rap movement, he was one of the very few to challenge himself and experiment with all kinds of different sounds and change the shape of hip-hop, but post 2014 he has been on a very steady decline. features are lazy, beats are generic (can't believe i'm saying this actually, but it's true), the rappers he cosigns are mostly wack and what surprises me the most is the fact it seems like he's turned into someone who follows what the trend in hip-hop is, rather than trying to set the tone, which is what he used to do ever since he came up.
Yea, he's reached a point where whatever he puts out his stans/hypebeasts will defend, because it's Ye and that deserves nothing but props, but he went from working with Daft Punk, Raekwon, young Cudi, John Legend etc. to Ty dolla sign, Quavo and French montana. He went from cosigning and giving a chance to Bon Iver, Frank Ocean & travis scott to Desiigner, big sean and Post malone. He went from having people like Q-Tip, Mos Def, Pusha etc in his inner circle to Ian Connor, a$ap Bari and Theophilus London. He went from doing no interviews, because media doesn't love him to purposely creating a very public feud with Taylor Swift. I understand time goes on and things change, but most of his decisions have impacted him and his music quality very negatively.
As far as rating his records -
