idk why I never made this thread, prob cause I would look like a shill for my playlists but w/e
So, I have a SHIT ton of playlists, all categorized by certain situation, theme, season, genre or mood.
I've posted these playlists before in the Spotify playlist thread but I will repost em here. I will make all of them collaborative so if y'all got ideas, go ahead and add em. Follow them if you wanna idc.
Grime/ UK Hiphop - 230 tracks (as of posting)
So this is my general playlist of UK Hip-hop and grime mashed in there, I've tried to include some of the lesser known guys as much as possible but either I have limited knowledge of the underground UK scene, their styles are too rough for me/not my thing or their discography is very limited, a lot of both of these scenes have that problem. The main compositor artists are Skepta, Wiley, Kano, Dizzee Rascal, D Double E/Newham Generals, Frisco, JME, Devlin, Section Boyz, Novelist, and Ghetts.
Smooth - 239 Tracks (as of posting)
So this playlist has already been shared around here, I believe @ikemefuna, @hugmaster and @TDE-mafia-of-da-west have already helped me on making this playlist as large as it is. But I am leaving it here for further addition if anyone wants to take a stab. It's focus is to compile awesome soul-touching smooth music from any genre, most commonly Funk, Soul, Jazz, R&B, Hip-Hop and certain electronic styles. It's probably the best playlist I have saved, it has a diverse set of artists, such as Erykah Badu, Anderson .Paak, Goldlink, Usher, R.Kelly, Snoop Dogg, Vulfpeck, DJ Quik, Robert Glasper, Santana, BJ The Chicago Kid, D'Angelo, Frank Ocean, The Internet, Isaiah Rashad etc.
Spring - 41 Tracks (as of posting)
Obviously, this playlist is for the spring season, which is now. It captures that barely warm, half cloudy/half sunny and blooming aesthetic of the late March, April, and May months, or mention the season somehow in the title of it. Its main artists are BadBadNotGood, Beach Fossils, James Blake, Mac Demarco, Ta-ku, Cashmere Cat, JMSN, Noname, Destroyer and others. It needs work, but so far it's pretty solid to me. Shouts to @hugmaster, @CloudFo and the rest of the GC gang for helping with this one yesterday.
Summer - 61 Tracks (as of posting)
This one is one of my first playlists, and it's pretty good so far. It's supposed to capture the beachy, blisteringly sunny, care-free, liberating aspect of summer, or mention the season somehow in the title of it. So far, it consists of mostly .Paak, Partynextdoor, Rae Sremmurd, and certain summer anthems like Pick up the Phone, Your Love and Money Trees.
Winter - 41 Tracks (as of posting)
S/o @Whathappenedtopeace for help on this one, I think he added a few tracks. Anyway this playlist is obviously supposed to capture the bleak, cold and emotionless feel of the winter, or mention the season somehow in the title of it. Main artists include Earl Sweatshirt, GZA (because Liquid Swords cmon), Elzhi, The XX Michael Kiwanuka, Bob Moses, and Radiohead.
Autumn - 26 Tracks (as of posting)
Yet again, here is one for Autumn. This one I took a few suggestions from the Autumn thread I made for this playlist, from Sarah, Uint and Omar iirc. Anyway, it's supposed to represent the breezy, decaying, caramel/pumpkiny feel of the Autumn season, or mention the season somehow in the title of it. It's main artists are American Football, Animal Collective, Isaiah Rashad and others. This one definitely needs more work, as many of the songs and artists IMO I have used in other playlists a lot.
Exercise / Hype - 137 Tracks (as of posting)
This one is probably the easiest to add onto, if it bumps in the whippicini alwhippo, then it goes in here. Warning, I have a ton of Giggs and some other UK artists so if you aren't into them, I apologize. Main artists are Danny Brown, Run The Jewels, Young Thug, Future, Migos, A$AP Ferg, 2 Chainz, Maxo Kream, Rae Sremmurd, Schoolboy Q, Underachievers and Flatbush Zombies.
Coffee - 30 Tracks (as of posting)
Hahahahaha, this is my playlist for when I relax with a coffee. It sounds weird, but it makes sense. It mixes a lot of the stuff from the Smooth playlist with Young Turks Records-core artists like James Blake and Sampha, with some acoustic folk/rock stuff. If it mentions coffee in the title, song or album title, it's good enough to add to the mix. Main artists: Sampha, Blood Orange, Sylvan Esso, D'Angelo, JAHKOY, Gallant, D. R. A. M.
Late Nights - 48 Tracks (as of posting)
This is one of my personal favorites, but I think this one definitely needs to expand because it's too short haha. It captures that mellow, dark and simpy feel of late night listening. The shit you'd listen to while sipping a whiskey in your armchair at 2am while you contemplate about your ex or some shit. Main artists are: The Weeknd, Baths, Burial, King Krule, The National, River Tiber, Shlohmo
Thrwbx - 39 Tracks (as of posting)
I have a hard time describing this one, it's basically my collection of 1. Old, "dusty" boom bap songs from the 80s/90s, and 2. Modern rap that follows in that same track, such as Your Old Droog, Elzhi, Ka, MF Doom, Blu, Apollo Brown, Gibbs' Pinata, Smoke Dawg's Don't Smoke Rock etc. Probably needs a lot of work.
Toronto - 45 Tracks (as of posting)
A playlist of tracks from Toronto-originated artists or tracks mentioning Toronto. Just so happens to be a lot of simpin, dark R&B trap stuff cause that's whats big here. Main artists include: Jazz Cartier, Drake, DVSN, Roy Woods, Derek Wise, The Weeknd, ToBi, Bryson Tiller, Sean Leon, Daniel Caesar, River Tiber.
Montreal - 49 Tracks (as of posting)
A playlist of tracks from Montreal/Quebec/French artists or tracks mentioning Montreal/Quebec. Just so happens to be a lot of French speaking rap (Which is pretty bad tbh). I barely use this playlist any more, but have a crack at it if ya got anything, anything at all. Main artists include: Kaytranada, Pomo, Wasiu, Of Montreal, Dead Obies, The Posterz, Booba, PNL. Loud Larry Adjust.
New York - 117 Tracks (as of posting)
A playlist of tracks from New York/New York State artists or tracks mentioning New York. Main artists include: Mobb Deep, Wu-Tang, Ratking, A Tribe Called Quest, Joey Bada$$, FBZ, A$AP Rocky.
Chicago - 55 Tracks (as of posting)
A playlist of tracks from Chicago/Illinois artists or tracks that mention Chicago/Illinois. Main artists include: Mick Jenkins, Saba, Noname, Sufjan Stevens, Alex Wiley, Chance the Rapper, Common, Kanye West, Curtis Mayfield, Chicago (The Band), Lupe Fiasco, Jeremih
"Scarifying" - 62 Tracks (as of posting)
Ok so this is a working title because I don't have any cool name to call it. But this playlist (s/o to @hugmaster and @kpnos for the help on this playlist) is centered around horrifying, brooding, paranoiac, sinister rap + rock (so far). Main artists include Chester Watson, Xavier Wulf, Maxo Kream, Earl Sweatshirt, Night Lovell, Freddie Gibbs, Three 6 Mafia, Pusha T, Da$H and RetcH.
Mango Mussolini- 65 Tracks (as of posting)
Political protest songs aimed at helping with anger against whatever Trump did recently, but also is just anti-corruption/fascism etc in general, or just political in general. Mainly political rap and punk music. Main artists include Kendrick Lamar, Kemba, Killer Mike, The Dead Kennedys, RATM, Vic Mensa, A Tribe Called Quest etc.
Down In The Dumps - 28 Tracks (as of posting)
For when you feel down or feel like shit, it's in your feelings music. Main artists include: Drake, Kanye West (808s), Radiohead, Isaiah Rashad , Earl Sweatshirt, Sampha.
